Hello!
My name is Simone Bell, and I’m the newly elected Representative for State House District 58 in the Georgia General Assembly. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and have been a resident of Atlanta, Georgia for 20 years, and of District 58 for 10 years. I came to the South to attend college and fell in love with everything that it means to be a southerner. My family roots are in the south and I have always felt a connection to this area. My grandfather moved his young family from Mississippi to Detroit in the mid 1950’s seeking better opportunities for his entrepreneurial interests. From him I learned the importance of a hard work ethic and keeping the people first in mind when taking action.
I’m a graduate of Agnes Scott College and a community organizer and activist at heart. No matter what position I’ve held I’ve always approached it as an advocate, offering myself as a voice of the people. I’ve worked as an activist and advocate in Atlanta and across the South and served as a community educator and community builder for more than 20 years. During that time I’ve worked on a broad range of policy and legislative issues including workplace equality, access to affordable healthcare, fighting HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination, safe schools for all children, youth empowerment, LGBT rights and equality, women’s issues and overall issues of social justice, human rights and fairness. I’m passionate about taking overwhelming and complex information and making it accessible to the people whom it will affect most, that they might make informed choices about their everyday lives. I believe in the voice of the people.
This is the work that I want to continue in the Georgia General Assembly on behalf of the people of District 58. I’m prepared and committed. I’m a homeowner, a taxpayer and a part of the human community and I share the same concerns that we all have in District 58. I know Georgia can be better and I know that the people of the District 58 can lead in making our state more progressive, more equitable and better prepared to thrive in today’s challenging world.
Please email me your concerns and issues, and share our message with your friends, families and neighbors. My campaign was about the people, and I want to hear your voice!
Best,
Simone
